Tri Band

Hi neelakantan ..
i do appreciate your query .. GSM is the most common mobile communication standard across the globe .. CDMA, GPRS are more such standards .. and hence different countries implement the GSM system on different bands .. (ideally different frequencies) .. so now what happens to a user who is in India and moves on an official visit to US ? can 1 say his mobile wouldnt work ? that would make no sense .. so mobile companies internationally accepted to manufacture mobile phones which can operate on different bands aka bandwidths .. this is all about tri band . it operates on three different bands .. so that you can use the mobile any where across the globe .. (for more info ..check http://gsm.argospress.com/trband.htm) ..
motorolla first implemented tri band in 1997 .. and it was a huge success .. mobile manufactures didnt want to wait for the international mobile operators to agree to a common band .. instead .. they jumped into the market to capitalise on it ..
hope i have cleared your query.
cheers
